Florida Democratic Vice Chair Found Dead, Husband Charged

Coral Springs, FL - A South Florida political figure was found dead in her home, leading to a homicide investigation and the arrest of her husband.

Nancy Metayer Bowen, vice chair of the Florida Democratic Party and vice mayor of Coral Springs, was discovered unresponsive during a welfare check on April 1st after she missed scheduled obligations and could not be contacted.

Law enforcement officers responded to her residence and later confirmed her death, launching an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities said her husband, Stephen Bowen, was taken into custody and charged in connection with the case.

According to police and arrest documents, he has been charged with premeditated murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Investigators stated that evidence collected at the scene indicated the victim had been shot.

The arrest report also states that the suspect allegedly made statements to a relative regarding the incident, which were later provided to investigators.

Law enforcement officials said additional evidence recovered from the home was consistent with details outlined in the affidavit.

The investigation is being treated as a domestic violence related case.

Nancy Metayer Bowen, 38, was first elected to the Coral Springs City Commission in 2020 and later served as vice mayor.

She was also active in statewide politics through her role with the Florida Democratic Party and participated in community programs and public service initiatives.

Officials confirmed that no other suspects are being sought at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to review evidence and prepare for legal proceedings.
