Folks living in coastal Treasure Coast communities may notice some smoke today.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is conducting a prescribed burn at Savannas Preserve State Park in Port St. Lucie.
Officials say the burn covers about 325 acres of pine flatwoods and is meant to ward off wildfires. The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office says these controlled fires play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
Today's burn is happening, weather-permitting.
