Pompano Beach, FL - A motorist was left critically injured after a Brightline train and a vehicle collided on the tracks in Pompano Beach on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3:50 p.m. local time, Broward County 911 dispatch received reports that a train had struck a car near West Atlantic Boulevard and North Dixie Highway in Pompano Beach.

Emergency crews from Pompano Beach Fire Rescue and Broward Sheriff’s deputies quickly arrived to find the car overturned on the tracks with the driver trapped inside.

First responders successfully freed the individual, who remained conscious during extraction and was subsequently transported to Broward Health North with serious injuries.

No other passengers on board the Brightline train were reported injured, and the train itself sustained minimal damage.

Witness statements and video footage show debris such as the engine block and tire being violently flung from the wrecked car, striking the nearby City Commission Chambers and shattering a window more than 100 feet away.

Traffic in the area remains disrupted as officials investigate the collision’s cause.

Reports confirm the time, location, and severity of injuries.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies continue to probe whether driver error, failure of crossing signals, or other factors may have contributed to the crash.

Authorities are urging drivers to obey all roadway safety protocols, remain alert at rail crossings, and never try to beat approaching trains.

A full investigation and official safety review are expected to follow in the coming days.
