Miami-Dade, FL - A man convicted of armed robbery drank a cup of bleach in a South Florida courtroom shortly after the guilty verdict was read.

According to the family of Jermaine Bell, Bell drank a cup of bleach after being found guilty of armed robbery in a Miami-Dade courtroom.

Bell's family says he's been in custody for more than three years fighting the armed robbery charges.

After drinking the bleach, Bell became sick and was taken out of the courtroom and to the hospital.

Reverend Jerome Starling, a distant relative of Bell, says he believes there needs to be accountability as to how Bell came into possession of the bleach.

Starling told Local 10 News "I see him drinking something that’s not right. His attorneys are letting him drink it. Corrections letting him drink it. All of a sudden I see him collapse. And I said how could this happen.”

The incident is under investigation by Miami-Dade County Corrections and Miami-Dade police.
