Hurricane Isaias Nears Gulf Coast as Dangerous Conditions Spread Inland

Hurricane Isaias continues to churn northward through the Gulf of Mexico as a powerful Category 3 hurricane, bringing increasing threats of storm surge, destructive winds, and flooding rain to the northern Gulf Coast.

At the latest position update, the center of Isaias was located near 29.0° North, 87.1° West, moving north at 17 mph. Maximum sustained winds at 115 mph, with a minimum central pressure of 959 millibars.

Forecasters say conditions are rapidly deteriorating along portions of the Florida Panhandle and Alabama coast as tropical-storm-force winds push onshore ahead of the storm's center.
