(Miami, FL) - Tropical storm Gonzalo has formed in the tropical Atlantic off the coast of Africa with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Cabo Verde Islands. For now, Gonzalo's track is forecast to move due north toward Tropical Storm Fay which is also clocking 50-mph winds.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect for Fay. National Hurricane center storm specialist Brad Reinhard says neither tropical storm is expected strengthen into a hurricane.
So far this season, we have had no actual hurricanes in the Atlantic.
Meanwhile, a powerful storm over the North Atlantic is building up strength as it heads toward New York and Boston. Forecasters say the early season Nor'easter is expected to pummel the region with gusty winds and driving rain over the weekend.
The storm could disrupt air travel and cause flooding and power outages.
