President Donald Trump is dubbing himself a "king."
On Wednesday (February 19), Trump took his Truth Social platform to applaud his attempt to revoke New York City's congestion pricing system.
"CONGESTION PRICING IS DEAD. Manhattan and all of New York, is SAVED," Trump wrote, before adorning himself as a king.
"LONG LIVE THE KING," he said.
That same day, the White House shared a fake Time Magazine cover of Trump wearing a crown on its official Instagram account. Trump's name appeared in big letters at the top of the cover and the left corner read: "Long live the king."
New York City's congestion pricing program imposes a $9 charge on drivers who enter Manhattan below 60th Street. The program aims to reduce congestion on the roads and encourage New Yorkers to travel by foot or public transit.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul spoke out about Trump's comments about the congestion pricing system and his reference to kingship.
"We are a nation of laws, not ruled by a king," Hochul wrote on Instagram Wednesday. "The MTA has initiated legal proceedings in the Southern District of New York to preserve this critical program. We'll see you in court."
The governor cited lower commute times, "better experience" for drivers, and increased use of public transit as improvements from the new program.
During a news conference on Wednesday, Hochul said "the cameras that help collect the tolls will remain on."
