A white man who was caught on camera hurling racial slurs at victims during a road rage incident has been arrested, CBS News reports. The California Highway Patrol said the incident happened on May 16 around 4 p.m. on southbound Interstate Highway 880 near Hegenberger Road in Oakland, according to a Friday (May 1) news release.
Footage shows the suspect, who's white, flipping off the victims while belting both the N-word and f-word at them. At one point, the driver even screams, "Die n****r! F**k you, n****r!"
It appears the driver intentionally rammed his Jeep into the victims' vehicle before losing control and crashing into a wall on the right shoulder of the highway.
Instagram user nunu2fyee first posted the viral video before it was either taken down or removed by the uploader. Screenshots of her video showed her writing, "I never thought this would happen to me."
Investigators also announced that 61-year-old Tracey Robert Blackwell, of Newark, was arrested in connection to the wild incident. He was arrested Friday and booked into the Alameda County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with hate crime enhancements, authorities said.
SFGate revealed that Blackwell is a registered sex offender who was convicted in 2001 for lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, per California Megan's Law Website. According to reporters, authorities were investigating Blackwell at the time for allegedly stalking and making obscene phone calls to a 19-year-old woman's home. During their investigation, they found a videotape of him sexually abusing a child.
He served eight years in prison for the crime and was released in 2009. No word on if detectives kept investigating the stalker allegations.
